About Us

  • GMNA was founded in 1998 and became a registered charity in 2003. It is an alliance of more than 20 member organisations working in Greater Manchester. Each member group is invited to nominate two representatives who are its main links with the Alliance and who receive and provide information about developments, events and meetings.
  • GMNA serves a population of approximately 3 million of which about half a million have a neurological condition or injury. Of these, about 50,000 are thought to be significantly disabled by their condition and about 17,500 need help with most of their daily activities.
  • We have a written constitution which guides our activities and an Executive Committee (who are the Trustees of the Charity) of between 9 and 12 people who are elected by the member group representatives at the Annual General Meeting each May.
  • The Executive Committee includes six officers, Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer and their deputies who lead the work of the Alliance and of the Executive Committee.

  • GMNA is fortunate to have a part-time GMNA Co-ordinator, Yvonne Trace, working across Greater Manchester "Developing the Neuro Network"   Yvonne's role is to make links with relevant health and social care professionals and local voluntary groups, as well as getting involved in local neuro networks and steering groups. In addition, she visits as many service users and carers groups as possible. It is important that their views and comments are gathered so that this information may help influence the implementation of the National Service Framework for Long-term Conditions.
